Phamotse has not failed to bring this outstanding feature in the fourth edition of the franchise. The three other additions of BARE books have shown us some truth about the society we live in. ![]() Like any Jackie Phamotse book, it forces you to turn from one page to the next and is nothing short of excellent, as each chapter unfolds you are introduced to a storytelling style like no other. Her fourth book, ‘BARE: Mercy’ introduces us to orphaned girls and the downfall of those powers. While you may be familiar with Phamotse’s, ‘The Blessers Game’ released in 2017, ‘The Cradle of the Hockey Club’ released in 2019, and ‘Ego’ released in 2020 you are yet to be amazed by the teratology addition. ![]()

Kuklin's important new book brings welcome clarity to a subject that has often been obscure and gives faces-literally and metaphorically-to a segment of the teen population that has too long been invisible. strikingly in-depth examination of the sometimes clinical complexities of being transgender, even as Kuklin's empathy-inducing pictures put a human face on the experience. The collective portrait that emerges from these narratives and pictures is diverse, complex and occasionally self-contradictory - as any true story should be.Informative, revealing, powerful and necessary. ![]() Kuklin brings her intimate, compassionate and respectful lens to the stories of six transgender young people. As Kuklin writes, "My subjects' willingness to brave bullying and condemnation in order to reveal their individual selves makes it impossible to be nothing less than awestruck." I read it (or devoured it might be more accurate) and suddenly found a side of myself put into words. It changed me, and I'm not even kidding or exaggerating. This book taught me something monumental about myself. I've read many books, some of them have taught me about the world, about people, about feelings or ideas. My copy is worn out from being opened, read in, then thrown onto the table or put carelessly down as I try to gather myself up from my messy emotional pile on the floor and try to deal with, well. Every poem has meaning, and soul and something deeply terrifying about it. Every line is powerful, it's got secrets. Siken is beyond talented with words, that much is clear, this entire collection is a work of pure art, something you rarely find these days. With a start like this, and with expectations as high as mine, you'd think the book would come up short. ![]() I have never in my life anticipated the arrival of a book more than I did with this. ![]() Dozens of times, until I realised it would never be enough, so I ordered his book. Because women cannot own property, inherit wealth, or work outside of the home, marriage is their only route to financial stability. Additionally, if marriage were the true aim of womanhood and provided women the fulfillment promised them, the many restrictions imposed upon women to force them into marriage would be redundant: “Society, however, both in, and, at first, in all other cases, has preferred to attain its object by foul rather than fair means: but this is the only case in which it has substantially persisted in them even to the present day” (53). Again, Mill argues that if the subjection of women were “natural,” laws limiting women would be superfluous because they would organically fill the role society has ascribed to them. ![]() Chapter 2 centers on the legal subjection of women, primarily via marriage. ![]() |
